World Environment Day
Creating a more sustainable future requires collaboration, commitment, and long-term action.
Over the past three years, in collaboration with our Sustainability Expert Partner, @Theatre Green Book, we have been working alongside 12 opera houses to support the environmental transition of the performing arts sector.
Together, we are identifying the specific sustainability challenges faced by opera houses and helping them reach the Theatre Green Book Basic Standards while progressing through the framework's different levels. Beyond meeting sustainability goals, this work focuses on developing comprehensive, institution-wide strategies that engage every department, from artistic and technical teams, to administration and leadership.
By embedding sustainability into every aspect of their operations, these opera houses are building the foundations for lasting change and demonstrating how culture can play a key role in shaping a more sustainable future.
On this World Environment Day, we celebrate the organisations leading this transformation and the collective effort required to make meaningful progress.
Theatre Green Book is an industry-wide initiative to work more sustainably in response to the climate crisis. It is a free resource for everyone in the performing arts, working in any role and at all scales, providing a framework for planning, best practice guidance, a measurement system and shared standards.
As part of our ongoing mission to promote sustainability in the performing arts, we are proud to collaborate with the Theatre Green Book, our expert partner dedicated to environmentally responsible practices in theatre.
